The reason this post got postponed was because it's difficult to share what it was really like to visit the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima. So, after many months, I've decided that it will be a more factual tour. Please ask us about it someday.
I left off in Hiroshima on day 2. The second full day in Hiroshima was spent at the Peace Memorial Museum and Park. This of course memorializes the dropping of the first nuclear weapon on the city of Hiroshima. We didn't take any photographs inside the museum, just the outside. The museum was beautiful.
Behind the museum is the Memorial Park. You can see "underneath" the museum to the park - to the area that was destroyed by the atomic bomb. Much has been rebuilt now, but the domed building that you see was one of the few buildings that survived during the blast.
This is the Cenotaph for the victims of the bombing. It not only includes those that were lost that day, but also those who have died since then with the after affects of the bomb.
The eternal flame of peace.
A monument to the children lost. The girl on top of the sculpture is Sedako, who tried to fold 1,000 paper cranes before she died.
A-bomb dome: This structure survived the nuclear blast (which was right above it).
The little memorial on the right side of the street is the hypocenter of the blast.
It was beautifully decorated with paper cranes.
