This past weekend Joe and I decided to take a trip to Tokyo. We hemmed and hawed when we should go, but when the long weekend was available to us and there was a Tokyo Symphony Orchestra concert being held at Suntory Hall - we just couldn't pass it up!
So last Thursday night we flew into Tokyo. We stayed in the Shinjuku area, which is home to a very large train station. We were in the heart of the city, as you can see!
We spent the next morning (Friday) at Ueno Park, the home of many of Tokyo's national museums. It was a beautiful park to stroll around, with a shrine in the middle of this pond. We also visited the Tokyo National Museum.
In the evening we went to Suntory Hall. In March of 2010, Joe and I went to Tokyo for the first time and saw the Tokyo Symphony in their side hall - Tokyo Opera City. We had been hoping to hear the Tokyo Symphony in their main hall (Suntory) since then. It was a fantastic concert and we left elated! The program included:
C.Debussy : Sirenes from “Nocturnes”
A.Schoenberg : Piano Concerto op.42
M.Ravel : Daphnis et ChloƩ
so happy to get our tickets! |
